JERAN MILLER

OWNER AND HEAD INSTRUCTOR

BLACK BELT, FIRST DEGREE

Applying modern teaching methods to the art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

Coach Jeran is originally from Tampa, FL, and he began practicing martial arts in 2005. He first encountered Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu when he wanted to improve his ground techniques in preparation for judo competitions. Jeran would earn his brown belt in judo in 2008, the same year he graduated from Florida State University. He then moved to South Korea to work as an English teacher. He lived there for four and a half years, where he taught in schools, met his wife, and obtained a Master’s degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (“TESOL”).

Jeran has competed in local jiu-jitsu tournaments from white belt to black. As he progressed in belts, he was often called upon to lead classes when his instructor was out of town. He became known for the clarity and the detail of his instruction, and he frequently received encouragement from his teammates to pursue teaching jiu-jitsu more seriously. Jeran received his BJJ black belt from Rinaldo Santos of Carlson Gracie Central Florida in December of 2019, and after reaching the first degree in late 2022, he determined to open his own academy.

When not at the academy, Jeran teaches science and social studies during the day to elementary schoolers at The Gotlib Jewish Academy in Maitland. He speaks four languages and holds three college degrees. He is the published author of several articles on emerging technology, and has a passion for music, whether spinning his collection of vinyl records or playing guitars.
