OUR CLASSES
Our curriculum and instruction methods are what separates our academy from all others
Kids Jiu-Jitsu
Our program for children (ages 5-15) is a much simplified and play-based version of what we teach the adults. The focus is on self-defense, bullying prevention, developing general coordination, and …of course… fun!
Our kids classes are taught in the gi (the traditional jiu-jitsu uniform), and are approximately 45 minutes in length. Each one includes a warm-up, instruction, jiu-jitsu-based situational sparring, and typically concludes with a just-for-fun game to make sure each student goes home having had a good workout.
The head instructor, Jeran Miller, is an experienced professional educator with a master’s degree in his field. He teaches second grade during the day, and spends evenings and weekends teaching jiu-jitsu at his academy. As a parent, you can be sure that your child’s classes will be handled with professionalism and an eye towards wellness.
Adult Jiu-Jitsu
Our adults curriculum was built from the ground up by our head instructor (a master’s degree holder in education) to be as efficient for learning and as fun as possible. They combine the induction of the ecological approach to learning with the deduction of traditional, drills-based instruction, making it effective for a variety of learner types and skill levels.
A typical adult class consists of the following:
A warm-up based on mobility and so-called “primal movements” training.
A task-based jiu-jitsu game to introduce students to the day’s goals.
Instruction and drilling to learn techniques to accomplish the day’s goals.
Another attempt at the task-based game so as to apply the new techniques against a resisting opponent.
Free sparring (called “rolling”). Students are free to do as many or few rounds of this as they choose. For most students, this is their absolute favorite part of class.
